Green Initiatives

If you're "green" person who cares about the environment, drives as little as possible, uses cloth diapers, and never throws recyclables in the trash, you may be hesitant to plan a vacation given how much of a carbon footprint it will leave and how little some cities are equipped to accommodate your preferences. If this sounds like you, a visit to Salt Lake City, Utah may be right up your street. Salt Lake City has a number of city-wide green initiatives to help citizens and tourists minimize their impact on the environment.

A Green Example

The Salt Lake City Convention and Visitor's Center recognizes that not everyone is a trailblazer. Some people simply don't know a green water treatment chemical supplier to switch to or don't want to stick their necks out first, so the visitor's center has done it for them. They've greened up their workspaces by biking instead of driving, using low energy light bulbs and computer modes, recycling, and using recycled or reusable products wherever possible.

Offset Your Carbon Footprint

The visitor's center realizes that the nature of their work encourages people to make extra carbon emissions getting to the city, so they're putting their proceeds into Salt Lake County's One Million Trees planting program. They've also created a carbon calculator to help you have a green visit, whether you're coming for pleasure or to buy horse fencing supplies. Simply enter the length of your car or airplane journey into the calculator and learn how much carbon you'll be emitting. You can then offset this value by donating to the tree initiative, so the new trees can absorb the carbon you emitted.

Have a Green Meeting

If you're planning on hosting or attending a conference in Salt Lake City, how about adding one extra simple step on top of arranging for hotels and hiring Orillia Catering. That's to check if you'll be using a green meeting venue. The Salt Palace Convention Center is the crown jewel of green meeting places. Highly accessible by public transit (so you can leave the car behind), the venue also has rooftop solar panels, indoor fittings from recycled materials, energy efficient lighting, and water conserving fixtures. Check the visitor website for other green venues in the city.

Take Up the Green Challenge

If you're coming to Salt Lake City to live, why not start your new life off right by taking up the challenge issued by the city. You can fix up your new home with energy efficient lighting, replace the water system with rainwater collection or an energy star tankless water heater, plant trees, and drive less while driving smarter in a new fuel efficient car. If you start your own business, you can go for an e2 sustainable business certificate.
